Cardiac death
The disappointing long-term sequelae of chronic Lyme disease is best understood by examination of case histories of the Ipswich, Massachusetts cohort.[1] One Lyme disease patient died despite having been prescribed two courses of intravenous antibiotics. Autopsy revealed a spirochete in the cortex and another spirochete was exterior to a leptomeningeal vessel. A second patient progressed to complete heart block requiring a pacemaker despite both oral and intravenous antibiotic.
